Genocide in Darfur

Should the United States play world police? It depends on who you ask; personally I think it depends on the issue we are involving ourselves in. I don’t see how our country can concentrate so much effort into a war that isn’t accomplishing much of anything and almost completely ignore things like the genocide in Darfur. There, of course has been some preliminary action towards the situation in Darfur but no where near enough. The UN has been a big part of providing aid and trying to bring a quick end to this horrific tale. There so far have been over 400,000 people killed and 2 million forced from their homes and these numbers are still on the rise. Unfortunately there is no way to predict the success of any action by the US in Sudan but I believe there could be more done. However, this brings up my previous point, should we be policing the world? No, I don’t think it is our place to take on the worlds problems but in situations like this where something could be done to save these innocent lives I believe it is necessary. It seems that many of the “discrepancies” our country gets into have ulterior motives. The war in Iraq has been a war that has not done what it intended to do, we began there to stabilize there country and remove Hussein from power. In turn we have over the past five years destroyed it beyond a point of recognition. What happened to setting up a new government? In the end I think our nation needs to take a good look at who they are electing as president of the United States 2008. Vote for who you feel is the best person for the job. GET OUT AND VOTE!
